Baby reflux: signs, symptoms and what to do

What actually is reflux?
Reflux is when a baby brings up milk after a feed, this is down to where the valve between the stomach and oesophagus are not developed fully it is very common in premature babies.
Is it common?
YES! Most babies who have reflux do not need to see a Doctor
What are the signs?
Bringing up a feed shortly after feeding or during
Unsettled during feeding
Not wanting to lie flat and arching their back
Crying – a hoarse sounding cry can often occur
What to do? Do I see a GP?
If you feel that baby isn’t gaining weight and is constantly uncomfortable then see your GP. They can prescribe Infant Gaviscon which will help. If you can take videos of when reflux happens so your Doctor and see and make sure it is definitely reflux.
